Helm runs on GNU/Linux, Mac, and Windows as a standalone program. Harrison’s “Drum Character” is also a strong contender if you want to dramatically change the sound of your kick. Helm is a free, cross-platform, polyphonic synthesizer with a powerful modulation system. I can’t speak to the authenticity of overtone’s Fairchild clone but it’s likely more appropriate as a “kick-drum-effector” than x42-dpl is. When you need complete control over your tools, when the limitations of other designs get in the way, when you plan to spend hours or days working on a session, Ardour is there to make things work the way you want them to.

Tutorial: Loading and Using Drum Samples in Ardour w/ TX16Wx (VST) Getting Stuff Done Hints and Tricks Kordman916 (Kordman916) October 23, 2018, 1:54am 1 Hey guys, first post under my account that I’ll be using to post my tutorials and content made using Ardour and various other free/open source programs/plugins. Unfortunately the FOSS world doesn’t have many (any?) plugins with that kind of sound because although someone can know the general concepts, the actual implementation details can require intense experimentation over months, years or even decades of full-time work.

More details on sessions can be found in Sessions chapter.

It then goes on to show how to import the MIDI file into Ardour and setting up instruments to play the song. In this tutorial you will learn how to import, clean up and edit a MIDI file using MusE. All media files used by the session are usually stored within the session folder. Audio production with Muse and Ardour is a 6 part video tutorial showing a complete workflow using FLOSS audio tools. A session consists of a folder containing a session file that defines all the information about the session. Music Production in Linux with Ardour and Ubuntu Studio - First steps for Beginners Joe Loves Linux 1. That’s not just “limiting” but rather a distortion-plus-compression-plus-eq effect. The first step is to create a new session, or open an existing one. To fatten up a kick drum, you’ll likely want some soft-clipping distortion, pre-emphasis on the signal and/or detector, and perhaps several “stages” of envelope detection using different time-constants. That doesn’t mean it will be the best tool for that task! It is certainly valid to try x42-dpl on a kick.
